In the weeks following spring break, the girls tennis team has shown nothing but hard work and improvement.

The Doherty Invitational took place on April 7, and included Coronado, Doherty, Palmer and Douglas County.  The Invitational proved to be competitive, with first and last place being separated by only three points.  Doherty won the tournament with 12 points, but Coronado came in a close second with 11 points.  Palmer followed in third with 10 points, and Douglas County was the clear loser with 9 points.

On 4/11, the girls played Palmer and won 5-2.  Coronado’s doubles teams all won their matches and contributed greatly to the team’s points.  Savannah Leifer won her #1 singles match 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

“Not only has our team been getting better at tennis throughout the season,  we have also been getting more physically and mentally fit.  With the help of our new coach [Philipsen], we have really been pushing each other and working harder because we all know that we have a very good shot at placing for state,” said Savannah Leifer, 11.

On 4/13, the team played CSCS and won 6-1.  Savannah Leifer easily won the #1 singles match 6-2, 6-0, and Bethany Heitland took the win in the #2 singles match 6-2, 7-5.   All of Coronado’s doubles teams won their matches in two sets.

As simply a spectator and a fan of the girls tennis team, I can say that I’ve seen much improvement throughout the season.  The girls are clearly working hard to accomplish their goals of getting to state.  Their next match is on April 27 at 3:45 at Rampart.  Come out and support our girls tennis team as they continue their journey to state!
