As we rapidly approach the middle of the second quarter, we still have many events to look forward to in this coming month.
Harvest of Love
A November staple, Harvest of Love is going to last from the beginning of November right up until the beginning of Thanksgiving Break. Typically, we as a school have two parts to this event, and those include the food collection and the spirit week.
In terms of donations and food collection, the entire month of November is open to nonperishable food item donations, which will be parceled out to help families in need. This is a big deal in our community as according to the US Department of Agriculture, 1 out of every 7 adults in Colorado struggle with food insecurity. Additionally, 1 in 5 children go hungry on a regular basis within our own state which has been shown in multiple studies by the Colorado Children’s Campaign.
If you would like to help out, bring your nonperishable food items to your second period class to get points in our school wide competition. For additional information regarding this aspect, talk to your second period teacher.
The other part of the harvest of love is, of course, the spirit week. However due to everything that has been going on this year it hasn’t gained the amount of popularity that it usually does. If you can please consider participating in one of these events, we could all use a little lightheartedness in our lives right now.
November 10 – PJ Day
November 11 – Jersey Day
November 12 – Twin Day
November 13 – Mad Red and Gold Day
ASVAB Testing (Juniors)
ASVAB Testing is upon us, and for those of you who will be taking the test this year, here is some general information about the test.. ASVAB is short for The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. If you are considering a career in the military after high school, this is the test that you need to take. Any kind of acceptance into the military revolves around passing this test.
Coronado will be giving the ASVAB five times on Mondays so that we keep the numbers down for spacing and keeping cohorts apart. You will need to provide your own transportation. Tests are now paper and pencil as the website crashed prior to testing dates, therefore the times are adjusted for the new format. The first test is also rescheduled due to the snow day we had.
Students taking the test will now meet in the AUX GYM instead of the library. Pencils will be provided, so just bring a snack and a water bottle.

Drive Smart Week
Drive Smart week is usually a November staple for Coronado but because of the strange and strenuous nature of this year, the student council had decided to forgo the event for this year. However, in its place will be the extended harvest of love campaign, and a Finish Strong campaign to help students better prepare for finals. Ms. Ambroz, who manages the student council said in regards to the extended harvest of love and finals campaign that, “based on the needs of our student body, we believe that it is important to serve them regardless of the season.”
On the 18th of November this year our football team is going to be hosting a Chipotle fundraiser night at the Garden of the Gods Chipotle from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Be sure to tell the cashier that you are there for Coronado, and a percentage of all the sales will help to directly benefit the football team. Even though things look different this year, that shouldn’t stop people from going out to support their school, so be there if you can, and be there in spirit if you can’t!
Even though we haven’t really technically been at school for that long of a time, a break is good every once in a while and in November this comes as the much anticipated thanksgiving break! The break will take place during the week of the 23rd and marks the end of our Harvest of Love Food Drive. Other than that there isn’t much to say about the break other than have fun cougars but remember to stay safe!
