On December 4th, 2022, the University of Colorado hired Deion Sanders, otherwise known as “Coach Prime.” This news brought shock waves to the college football world.

Coach Prime had previously been the head coach at Jackson State University, a HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) located in Jackson, Mississippi. During Coach Prime’s time at Jackson State, he led the team to their first 10-win season in over 35 years, he and his team also claimed the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) Championship for the first time since 2007.

Arguably, the biggest news story that came out of Coach Prime’s role at Jackson State was when he flipped 5 star and number 1 ranked player for class of ’22, Travis Hunter out of Collins Hill High School.

Coach Prime eventually left Jackson State to take the job at the University of Colorado. Colorado being a team that finished at the bottom of the PAC-12 going 1-11.

In his opening press conference, Coach Prime said, “I have assembled some of the best scouts, [and] some of the best kids that we’re recruiting, [are] commitment[ing]…as I speak.” It’s fair to say that he was right. Later that month 5-star Travis Hunter transferred from Jackson State to Colorado, and nine 4-stars have followed along with 5-star, Cormani McClain, the number 1 ranked Cornerback in the class of ’23.
