Two weeks ago, having furiously spent more than six weeks in Build Season, Coronado’s Robotics team, Team 2996 “Cougars Gone Wired” (CGW), traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition’s Green County Regional, lasting from March 7th to 9th. This was their first competition this year.
CGW VP of Community Outreach Riley Brown, Class of 2024, discussed the outcome of the Regional. He is the head of Scouting, which supports the drive team by providing data on their partners and opponents, including their strategy, statistics, and counterstrategies for matches.
CGW’s goal for out of State Regionals is “learning and practice, and we got so much of both,” Mr. Brown commented. After qualification matches, the team was seeded 10th, and their alliance tied for 7th/8th place in the end.
The Cougars also earned the Quality Award, which celebrates “machine robustness in concept and fabrication.” The practice also showed in the scouting data, which Mr. Brown said, “showed Team 2996 as the 8th best scoring robot at the competition out of 43 teams.”
In the end, CGW played amazingly, and they will only continue to improve. They go to Denver this week, competing from March 21st to 23rd, so make sure to go check them out!
