With summer rapidly approaching many individuals are deciding their plans for the hotter season. Obviously, traveling can be expensive and not everybody can afford to travel out of state. The state of Colorado is packed with events, sights, and historical monuments, but one will find there is much to do in the city of Colorado Springs alone.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Colorado Springs is the place. Garden of the Gods is an iconic rock formation and national landmark in the Springs. Spanning over 1350 acres, one can expect to sightsee at this park for hours without wanting to turn away from its beautiful red rocks and grassy plains. The location is famous for its dramatic views and the “Kissing Camels” rock at the very top. The views and scenery only complement Pikes Peak which is one of Colorado’s most highly regarded mountains. One resident, Diego Trujillo, Class of 2025, said, “What I think makes Colorado Springs unique is the landscape. Seeing suburbs in the middle of fields is always weird.”
For those who are less interested in the outdoors, the food is highly rated too. Colorado Springs is home to many great, local, restaurants. A place that shares these popular joints is Old Colorado City, a small area in Colorado Springs, rich in history. The summer is hot so why not visit The Colorado City Creamery, home to great ice cream flavors and delicious hot dogs. Rhianna Smith, resident of Colorado Springs and Class of 2025, said, “Old Colorado City has some of the best food in town. There’s so many local restaurants with delicious cuisine of all kinds.”
A very overlooked feature of Colorado Springs is its inviting museums. The city is home to over 30 different historical museums and galleries which depict the bold development of the area and even, the country as a whole. One of these locations is the Ghost Town Museum. The famous display tells and shows the history of the springs and its roots in the gold rush. Attendees can expect to go into real preserved town buildings, see artifacts, and even pan for gold. The museum is certain to be a fun experience for individuals of all ages.
Another plethora of experiences is the infamous downtown neighborhood. Its large buildings and busy streets can make it seem packed but the area is a great place to visit without grand expectations. However, there’s much more to see in Downtown Colorado Springs. Each block has local stores and restaurants that standout. Off of Tejon Street is the Upstate Pizzeria, home to great food but above it lies the Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum which sports motorcycles of all kinds from different eras. Downtown is a square mile of fun to be had.
Colorado Springs does not disappoint when it comes to showing off its scenery and locations. The city offers an abundance of activities and food to eat for a relatively cheap price. The answer to your summer exploration may be the historical and enticing municipality.
