Here at Coronado, we offer many different classes that help students prepare for their future. This includes classes that explore different career fields: Photography, Business, Culinary, and so many more!
One class that is lesser known to most is the Medical Exploration class, AKA Med-X. The class is all about exploring different aspects of the medical field, from nurses to EMTs to phlebotomists. Students are able to learn about anything! An example of an even more unique career that Med-X could cover comes from Charlize Roberts, Class of 2027, who is considering becoming a homicide detective. With the Medical Exploration class, students are able to explore it all.
Mr. Lay, who teaches the class, explained that “the main thing is getting people exposed to the medical field, whether that be a medical doctor, a surgeon, or anything else,” and figuring out if this is really what someone wants to do with their life. Helping get students experience if they are interested in a career in the medical field and determine what area they are truly interested in pursuing is important during high school, especially since they can do it for free here on campus.
Mr. Lay also tells us that this class explores all aspects of the field, including DNA analysis, sterile procedure, and biotechnology, all including multiple guest speakers and detailed labs throughout the year. If you want to know more about what happens in the class, talk to Mr. Lay in the main building, he teaches the class during periods 6, 7 and 8.
