A 2017 study in the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine found that 1 in 5 high school athletes (20%) stop playing their sport due to severe injuries. Coronado has multiple athletes who can be recognized for overcoming this obstacle due to their dedication to their sports.
Collin Wolf, class of 2026, varsity football wide receiver, defensive back, and varsity basketball guard, suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder that resulted in a multiple-month recovery after his surgery. Collin Wolf quoted, “I had no idea of the damage that had been done to my shoulder. I thought that I would be playing in at least 3 weeks. But the result came in, and my morale plummeted.” Studies from UCHealth find that most athletes post-injury will have high levels of fear and anger, which is why most of them quit. Collin used it as motivation to improve as an athlete and overall person.
He stated, “I am motivated by the way the injury made me feel. I never want to feel that vulnerable physically and mentally ever again. My motivation comes from the failures that I have experienced.” Collin is now in his senior year with a strong start to his football season, recording 18 catches for 337 yards, which ranks third in the state, and 32 total tackles, second on the team. He is a game-changing player to watch, and it is exciting to see him dominate and compete again.
