On Friday, September 12, at 7 p.m., the Coronado boys varsity football team took on the Cheyenne Mountain football team. The final score was 54-65 with the Hawks taking the win. The game was energetic and a close battle of offense and defense.
After a rough start, the Cougars showed they wouldn’t go down without a fight. During the 3rd quarter, the Cougars scored 27 points and held Cheyenne down to only 6 points. The Cougars’ offence showed speed and resilience through it all. Thomas Buckmiller, varsity quarterback, fought a hard game, passing for 588 yards.
The Cougars have now fallen for the second time this season; however, they have proven their ability to fight and stay in games until the end. This Friday, they will play Pueblo Centennial. “The game will be hard, but if we fight the way that we did against Cheyenne, we have a shot at winning,” said Billy Ratican, Class of 2027.
