Many educators of all regions, like those of Coronado High School, have the underlying question of whether intelligent kids are a result of their habits; according to Success by Design, in a 2024 study, Habits are the brain’s way of preserving energy and allowing people to perform tasks subconsciously. There are a few examples like academic work, sport IQ, and getting ready in the morning, but there are also negative tolls on mental health like unhealthy coping and stagnation. Good habits preserve energy in students while also boosting confidence, reliability, mental well-being, and structure.
According to our Coronado High School Social Worker, Alexis Vogelin, “Being aware as a student and person is very important to know how you learn if that’s a hands on, visual, or auditory learner.” This can underline that being smart comes with knowing how a student should learn, in effect, to obtain more knowledge and the habits they should foster.
Mia Anderson, Class of 2026, explains how good habits are proof of intelligence: “When people develop habits specialized for them, they [can perform higher] in any situation.”
