Ryker McCombe, Class of 2026, shot a 9-over 79 on Wednesday at Fox Hill Golf Club in Longmont just two days after sustaining a severe pectoral strain in another tournament.
McCombe’s 79 was the best score out of Coronado’s top four golfers; McCombe’s first score below 80 this season was also good for 29th place of 124 golfers. Asked how the injury affected his play, McCombe said, “I thought about every shot more thoroughly, because I had think about swinging easy enough to not hurt myself on top of everything else that comes into play [like wind, lie, distance]”.
In fact, McCombe was able to use only his sand wedge and putter at practice on Tuesday to prepare for the Niwot-hosted tournament. Fox Hill, notoriously difficult for its abundance of bunkers and water protecting fairways and greens, will also host the Class 4A State Tournament in October.
