The Coronado Cougars boys’ soccer team hasn’t had the great start we all hoped for, but there’s still belief that things can be turned around. With league play wrapping up on October 23rd, the Cougars still have time to make up for their mediocre start. With the high-ranked, difficult opponents out of the way early, they are heading into a stretch of games that feel much more manageable than the games they opened up with. Hopefully, this will be the turning point for the team where confidence and chemistry start to build again.
The team has felt both frustration and hope this season. There were games where they underperformed and walked off the field knowing they could’ve done more. But, they’ve already faced most of their toughest opponents, and that brings confidence that the road ahead looks brighter than the road behind.
Captain and Goalkeeper, John Corbett, admitted that he has been disappointed too, but has not lost faith in the future. “I am disappointed how the season has gone so far, but I have faith we can turn it around and finish off the season strong,” Corbett said.
Midfielder Ethan York echoed a similar thought. “The season has been mediocre so far, but I believe we will be able to win league and make the playoffs,” York said.

This shared sense of hope for the future is something the rest of the team should also feel. Even though they’ve had games where they didn’t play to their full potential, they can do better. Practices have been beneficial and organized, and the chemistry within the team is slowly on the rise. Players are pushing through frustration and disappointment, picking each other up, and staying focused when it would be easy to give up.
With leadership from the seniors, along with high determination and effort from everyone, Coronado soccer still has plenty to play for. This stretch of games is their golden opportunity to show everyone what they are capable of, despite their record.
