On Monday, October 6th, Coronado is hosting Palmer’s college fair for the 5th year from 5-7 pm in the main gym. This event is open to all students, but is recommended for all juniors and any undecided seniors. Mr. Scott Crosby, the college and career readiness counselor, and Mr. Robert Edmund, the college assistance/Edge teacher, offered more about what the college fair has to offer.
With over 130 domestic and international colleges sending representatives from their schools, there is extensive representation of post-high school organizations. Although the college fairs are open to all, it is mostly recommended for juniors to explore the possibilities and seniors to make final decisions.
Mr. Edmund explained why he requires his senior EDGE students to attend and recommends his junior students to go: “The kids get the opportunity to speak directly to the college they plan to attend.” Because websites can be hard to navigate and information can be lost, this gives students a chance to get information straight from the source. These representatives have information about everything from location to tuition and admissions.

Additionally, the Palmer College Fair is a unique opportunity in the Colorado Springs region. With Coronado High School’s central location, ample parking, and a spacious gymnasium for accessibility, attending the fair opens endless doors with just a quick walk through.
Mr. Edmund, when asked about the benefits he has observed, stated that students “need adult interaction for college,” and the college representatives offer a controlled environment to gain this experience.
Another benefit is that more students are able to make informed decisions about attending college. “We know that the biggest difference we’ve seen is more people enrolling in two-year schools,” Mr. Crosby noted after reviewing the graduating class data from 2024.
Although the college fair involves significant costs for both Palmer and Coronado, the data supports that, in the words of Mr. Crosby, “there are no downsides,” only opportunities when it comes to exploring the educational paths available.
