Cougars Care is kicking off Homecoming week with a fundraiser called Bedazzle the Bald. On Monday, October 6, three teachers will have their heads covered in adhesive gems. Raffle tickets will be available for one dollar during lunch or after school at the Cougars Care table from September 29th through October 3.
The teachers who have volunteered to be bedazzled are Mr. Urban, Cougars Care Leader; Mr. Nash, Science Teacher; Mr. Hartman, English Teacher; Mr. Philipsen, English Teacher; Mr. Edmund, English Teacher; and Mr. Cox, Librarian Tech. Students who write their names on their tickets have the chance to be a part of the action, and four names from each teacher’s bucket will be drawn, and those lucky students will get to do the bedazzling.
The idea for this fundraiser came from a simple classroom joke. Cougars Care Member and Sophomore, Karina Jarboe, explains that “the idea for Bedazzle the Bald actually came about last year. Morgan Simonson was in Mr. Nash’s chemistry class and thought it would be funny to see his head bedazzled. She asked him and he said he would if it was for a fundraiser, and Bedazzle the Bald was born.”
While the fundraiser is packed with humor, the money raised will go towards Cougars Care initiatives, which support students and families in need. By tying something as lighthearted as bedazzling heads to a larger mission of giving back, the event reminds everyone that fundraising doesn’t always have to be serious to make a real impact.
As Cougars Care Member and Junior Skylar Corbett explains, “Helping people through this fundraiser has made me realize that fun/silly things can do as much good as more serious things.”
The group has worked hard to turn the idea into reality, and planning the event required careful coordination, including working around fall break, finding a time that wouldn’t conflict with other traditions like Harvest of Love, and making sure teachers and administrators were on board. Cougars Care members spent hours organizing the raffle, creating the bedazzling setup, and communicating the rules so that everything would run smoothly on the big day.
Despite the challenges and tight timelines, the team believes the effort is well worth it. As Karina put it, “I think that this fundraiser shows the fun-loving spirit of our school.” The excitement building around the event proves just how much school pride can shine.
