Varsity Football’s Final Game

After Coronado football’s loss to Cheyenne Mountain, Oct. 30, the Cougars ended the season 1-9. It was a back and forth battle between the Cougars and the Cheyenne Mountain for the first half until the Cheyenne Mountain Indians exploded for 22 points in the second quarter.

There was very little action in the third quarter, however, neither team put up any points. Enter the fourth quarter, the Cougars were down the same amount as halftime, but would score late in the quarter to make the score 29 to 15. The Cougars’ loss wasn’t a factor for Marquis Arrington, 12 and Ryan Strabala, 12. Arrington had a great game with 172 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown, and gave the highlight of the game with a 97 yard touchdown run. On defense, Strabala would once again lead the team in tackles, finishing Friday with 15.

It was not just a two man show, Gavin Cade, 11, had a fantastic game with 10 total tackles. Cougar quarterback, Toby Smith, 10, had trouble finding open receivers, which lead to a down game for the young quarterback, and a finish 5 of 15 for 29 passing yards and no touchdowns.

The Cougars’ final game was both a joyful and melancholy occasion, Coronado seniors played for the final time in a high school uniform and the team reflected on their progress throughout the season.
