State Wrestling Tournament Results
February 22, 2016
Six Coronado Wrestlers participated in the State Wrestling Tournament at the Pepsi Center Thursday through Saturday. Here are their results:
Jimmy Weaver (182 Weight Class) – Jimmy Weaver, who owned a 36-6 record pre-tournament, fought valiantly in his events. Unfortunately, he suffered a concussion during a match and couldn’t progress through to the next match. Next year, as a senior, he’ll have another chance to go farther in the tournament.
Chase McElhany (145 Weight Class) – Chase, the only senior from Coronado at the tournament, wrestled well, finishing one round from placing.
KJ Kearns (126 Weight Class) – KJ Kearns was the only Freshman wrestler from Coronado in the tournament, and he encountered some unfortunate circumstances while there. KJ was disqualified in a controversial decision, barring him from competition. However, on the bright side, he has three more years to come back and take the tournament by storm.
Daniel Roth (106 Weight Class) – Daniel Roth fought hard but was out after two matches.
Stephen Dabelko (113 Weight Class) – Stephen took his first match, but lost the next two, resulting in an exit from competition.
Nicholas Cote (160 Weight Class) – Nicholas was defeated in his first two matchups, causing him to drop from tournament contention.
Your Coronado Wrestlers put up a great fight in Denver, and although they may not have gone as far as they would’ve liked, they gained lots of valuable experience to translate into next season. Good job guys!
