Troye Sivan: Blue Neighborhood Tour

Troye Sivan, an Australian pop artist, stopped in Denver on February 16 for the sixth show of the Blue Neighborhood Tour. The doors to The Ogden Theatre opened at 7:00 p.m. and the opening act LANY took the stage at 8:00 p.m.
LANY, a small band from Los Angeles, riled up the crowd with a short, but energetic set based around their newest album, “Make Out.” They ended with their most popular song, “ILYSB,” before welcoming the main act, Sivan, to the stage.
Sivan opened the show with the song “BITE” from his newest album, “Blue Neighborhood.” He continued nonstop until he experienced technical difficulties before the fourth song, “HEAVEN,” which is originally recorded with Betty Who, another Australian pop artist. In an attempt to stall while the stagehands worked to fix the problem, Sivan spoke about his inspiration to write the song.
Sivan said that when he was around 15 years old he began to realize that he was gay and had a lot of concerns about his future, like whether he would be able to marry or have family. “HEAVEN” is based around these questions and emotions. After a few minutes Sivan decided to forgo the original plan and play a special acoustic version of the song.
During Sivan’s next song, “SUBURBIA,” the crowd held up cutouts of blue houses, which two local fans passed out during the long wait outside the venue. The set continued with a few more songs from, “Blue Neighborhood,” before playing a cover of, “Here,” by Alessia Cara.
Sivan continued with an acoustic version of his breakout song, “Happy Little Pill,” which was featured on his first EP, “TRXYE.” After three more songs, Sivan and his supporting band left the stage, only to return minutes later for a two song encore of “LOST BOY” and “YOUTH.”
Sivan’s sold-out show at the Ogden was an energetic environment and is being widely talked about on social media by Sivan’s fans. Sivan will continue touring in America through mid-March and then will take the Blue Neighborhood Tour to Europe for the second leg.
