After 4 hard fought matches on Friday and Saturday, the Coronado Varsity Tennis emerged from the Kadet Kickoff Tournament with a strong third place finish. With a record of 3-1 at the tournament, the Coronado boys tennis team extended their season record to 4-1.

Leading the team to victory was one of Coronado’s seniors, #2 Singles Spencer Furgerson.“I think it’s a good precursor to things, we haven’t haven’t played in the tournament before,” said Furgerson, and as well as that, a great way to warm up for the season. Spencer, who narrowly missed a trip to state last year, looks forward to trying to qualify for state alongside his new “talented freshmen teammates”, Reagan Bole, Reilly Fredell, and Grayson Graham. “It’s kind of passing things on, because we have four seniors now, so making sure the team continues what we’re doing after this year.”

So far this season the Cougars are 3-0 not including the tournament. James Boehlke, Sr., #3 Singles, has kept a perfect record, 3-0 so far, and can be expected to keep that as the season goes on. In #1 Singles, Ashton Rogers, Jr., is 2-1, as well as #2 Singles Spencer Furgerson, Sr., and #1 Doubles Reagan Bole, Fr., and Mark Landolfi, Sr.. The team is rounded out with Reilly Fredell, Fr., and Tucker Travins, So., in #2 Doubles, Grayson Graham, Fr., and Jason Mackay, Sr., in #3 Doubles, and Chase Jones, Jr., and Nicholas Pharris, So., in #4 Doubles.

The tournament hosted by Air Academy hosted teams from Arvada West, Canon City, Doherty, Liberty, Mullen, Palmer Ridge, Pine Creek, Pueblo West, Rock Canyon, and Thunder Ridge. The Cougars have defeated both Palmer Ridge and Fountain Valley in tight 4-3 matches since the tournament, and play next at Vanguard on Tuesday, September 6.
