Cougars Prosper against Palmer

In a three set blow out, the Cougars won their match against Palmer on October 6. Jaelyn Hershberger,11, has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the past two games, and, and with 10 kills against Palmer, has raised her total for the season to 141. Also with an outstanding match was setter Delaney St. Pierre, 11, contributing 5 aces, 28 assists, 6 digs, and a kill of her own. The Cougars pulled off their first 3-0 win this season, and their second league match win.
In order to win the game, the Cougars needed to stay “focused on defense and communication”, according to Delaney St. Pierre, and they definitely succeeded: Ashlynn Garcia, 11, had 16 digs, and Jaelyn Hershberger had 20 serve receives ,and the Cougars are now on a two game winning streak after losing two subsequent games midseason. With the win the Cougars ended up moving down to 17th in the 5A rankings, needing to be 12th to host a regional at Coronado.
After the Palmer match, Mara Abernethy topped the hitting percentage rankings for Colorado after hovering at number two since the start of the season. The middle, 11, surpassed 160 kills for the the season with her 6 at the Palmer match.
With only four regular season matches remaining this season,the Cougars are setting their sights on succeeding in the offseason and potentially making a trip to state for the fifth time in the last six years. The last two home matches for the season are against Doherty on 10/13 and Pine Creek on 10/20. Come support the Cougars in the main gym at 6 P.M.!
