The Lady Cougar basketball team’s past couple of games have been marked by  very close and devastating losses.

The Cougars fought hard against Palmer on Saturday, 1/21, finishing with a 42-38 loss. Longtime rivals, Coronado and Palmer, were both determined to win; sadly, the Terrors came out on top this year by a meager 4 points.

Junior Abriana Burr scored 11 points during the game, including one 3-pointer, and was the highest scoring Coronado player. Senior Celia Smith also scored an impressive 10 points, as well as getting 7 rebounds and 4 fouls.

Alese Abitia, 12, says “It was probably one of the best games we’ve played together, even if we did lose by 4. We played 100% from tip off to the final buzzer.”

The Cougars’ next game, against Rampart, ended with a 48-20 loss for the Cougars.

Abitita commented again saying, “We started off really slowly due to the injuries and sickness, but we ended strong and working together more as a team. It wasn’t one of our best games, but we play them again in February and we’re ready to come back and give them a run!”

The Cougars’ next game is away at Doherty on Tuesday, January 31 at 7 pm. Good luck Cougars!
