On January 27th, president Donald Trump, passed a temporary ban lasting about four months on all travel to and from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Many chief justices were unaware that the ban had even been signed and several key politicians such as Paul Ryan Disagreed completely. Mike Pence earlier in the campaign was recorded disagreeing with the ban but seems to now support the president in his decision. This prevents not only the travel of American citizens to the seven countries, but all immigration as well. This has caused widespread chaos throughout the nation’s airports and several protests have been going on since the passing of the ban leaving families trapped in airports. Trump claims that the temporary ban is an attempt at “extreme vetting” and only being implemented as a precautionary measure. This new rule has caused outrage in the nation’s airports as flights are turned away and travelers were detained. Several judges have taken pleas for entry and granted stays.

Trump’s immigration policy has citizens thinking about the reasoning behind the ban. When questioned, Trump’s administration gave little information other than it was what was best for the American people. This has upset several political groups and caused mass callings on the constitutional merit of the new law and whether it complies with US code 1182- subsection(f), which discusses the ruling of a President restricting access to the United States. When questioned directly, Trump brought up several points including homeland protection as well as previous acts of terrorism such as 9/11. Many American citizens have said and distinguished that Trumps views raise the question of who they are truly benefitting.

One of the many inconsistencies in trumps ban is the fact that it exempts several middle eastern countries where Trump has business partners as well as the countries in question were actually picked by former president Barack Obama.

Other politicians, including former president Barak Obama, fundamentally disagrees with Trump’s decision on the temporary travel ban. Obama spent his whole time during his presidency making sure every can feel safe expressing their religions and cultures. Last friday, a court judge passed a motion to block Trump’s implemented ban and allow travel to and from the foreign countries. This has caused outrage amongst the White house staff who are in favor of the travel ban. President Trump has said that he will continue fighting for the ban. The ruling may be moved into the hands of the supreme court to institute a final decision.
