On January 25, the band DNCE, who you may know from their hit single ¨Cake By the Ocean”, sold out Summit Music Hall in Downtown Denver. People from all over the state lined up around the block in the freezing temperatures in anticipation of seeing the group perform. Bundles of blankets and discarded coffee cups littered the sidewalks as evidence of the amount of time some had waited in line.

The emerging, pop/rap band The Skins opened for DNCE, playing songs such as their biggest hit “Bury Me” and others from  their newest EP “Still Sleep”. Fans bopped along to fun beats and choruses with heavy rap verses in between.

Shortly after The Skins left the stage, the lights went down and the crowd went wild. Two crew members dressed as  strormtroopers came out carrying Team DNCE flags as the opening score to Star Wars played behind them. The troopers stepped to the side, making way for the band who were wearing Kylo Ren and Darth Vader masks accompanied with red lightsabers and the Imperial March. The band ripped off their masks and took to their instruments, and broke into their self titled song.

The crowd enthusiastically sang along to every song, and sang (or screamed) even louder when lead vocals Joe Jonas came closer to their section of the audience. The band also threw t-shirts out to the crowd during the songs “Toothbrush” and “Good Day” and the encore “Cake By the Ocean”. Confetti rained over the venue in an exciting final bow, leaving the audience awestruck and covered in a rainbow of tissue paper.

A few fans gathered outside the stage door and chanted “DNCE” as the band loaded the bus and drove away, with bassist Cole and guitarist Jinjoo waving back to the fans.

Junior Mackenzie Uusinarkaus is a fan who attended the concert last week. She says on the experience, “Joe Jonas is an actual angle.”

DNCE made sure to bring a fun time to Denver, and kept an exciting, fresh vibe throughout the whole concert. The dedicated fanbase and growing popularity of the band will surely bring them to a larger venue on their next visit to the Mile High City.
