The Coronado Boys swim team started off the season with a disappointing loss. They competed against Lewis Palmer, a team that proved to be a formidable opponent last season and who, based on Thursday’s meet, continues to demonstrate prowess in the pool. The following week however, the Cougars then faced off against the Palmer Terrors, and were able to redeem themselves, pulling out a decisive victory of 132 – 50.

This weekend the team attended their first large meet and placed fourth out of eleven teams. Coronado bested DCC, Pine Creek, and Air Academy, no small feat considering the reputation the schools have for successful athletic programs. The team’s impressive finish was thanks to performances like the one from senior Marley Kaiser who anchored the team’s 200 free relay. Kaiser was able to edge out the second place Cheyenne Mountain team by a matter of milliseconds, 1:33.67 to Cheyenne Mountain’s 1:33.79. Jackson Sawyer, 10, says of the team, “All together we all want to keep fighting and win as many meets as we can.” Sawyer qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke this weekend and said of his season, “My goal for the season is to do well at state and while I can’t speak for everyone on the team, I’m sure they share similar goals.”

Come support the boys at their next home meet on April 18th, where they will face off against Pine Creek and hope to qualify even more swimmers for state!
