Girls Golf Sends Three to State

Grace Abernethy, Sports Editor

After one of Coronado girls golf’s most successful seasons, three golfers qualified to compete at the 4A State Championships on May 21 and 22. The team narrowly placed third behind Pine Creek and Cheyenne Mountain out of the twelve teams competing, narrowly missing out on sending a team to state. Junior Madi Eurich qualified for her third state championship for golf after finishing with a +17 on the course, which was good for sixth place. Senior Rachel Chapman and sophomore Anika Hagen also golfed well, Chapman placing 17th and qualifying individually for state. Kate Griffin placed fourth after her second place finish at CSML’s. Kate, who will will also be competing in the 3A State Championships for tennis with her home school, the Colorado Springs School, also qualified with Coronado to compete at state for golf. She reflected, “This season has been great to be a part of. As a team, we all improved so much from the beginning to the end. For myself, I am so proud to be on this team and and I am also very proud of how I performed. Qualifying for State is an honor in itself. Just getting there and experiencing high level golf is something I am really looking forward to.” Congratulations to Madi, Rachel, Kate, Anika, and all of Coronado’s other golfers on their fabulous season!
