Coronado’s volleyball team continued their now 5 game winning streak on 9/28  with a huge win against Pine Creek.  The game ended quickly as only three sets were played, Coronado obviously dominating each set.  Jaelyn Hershberger stood out against Pine Creek with an impressive 12 kills and 23 attacks.  Mallory Brown also greatly contributed to Coronado’s win with 10 kills and 24 attacks.  The team seems to be improving each week, setting them on a clear path towards a successful state tournament.

In the first set, the Cougars blew Pine Creek away 25-10.  Set two proved to require a bit more work, but Coronado pulled themselves out of the set with a 25-22 win.  Set three came and went quickly as Coronado took a 25-12 win, winning the game 3-0.

Mara Abernethy, 12, said, “based on the Pine Creek game, we’re really excited about the rest of the season! We stuck together and played as a team for the entirety of that game which I was really proud of! I can’t wait to continue that into league play!”

This year, the Cougars are fortunate to have a strong roster consisting of mostly seniors.  Lacey Redinger, 11, says, “because we have such a heavy senior team this year we all have pretty high goals for the season, but overall our main team goal is to win metro leagues and be top 3 or better at state.”

The win against Pine Creek gave the Cougars momentum going into the remaining season.  Coronado’s next home volleyball game is on 10/5.  Be sure to come and support the team as they continue their journey to metros and state.  Good luck Cougars!
