Coronado Softball Finishes Season Swinging

Varsity Softball Celebrates after their Final game

The first week of October was busy and hard for the Coronado softball team as they crossed the finish line of their season. Over the span of just four days the Lady Cougars battled against Palmer, Cheyenne Mountain, and Rampart. Unfortunately, the girls lost all three games, but kept their spirits up and fought hard through the week in the face of adversity.

Their first game against the Palmer Terrors was their closest of the week, sporting an impressive and abnormally high-scoring final of 13 to Palmer’s 15. Cougar Shelby Pick, 12, stood out at the plate, completing the game with an impressive .750 batting average, aided by Katelyn Brossett, 12, who managed two impressive three-base runs.

Later in the week, the Cougars faced off against Cheyenne Mountain, and suffered a loss of 1 to 6. The players managed to fight particularly hard, Nevaeh Santistevan, 10,  specifically, stole three bases and made Coronado’s only run of the night.

Things were rough again on Saturday, 8/7, against the Rampart Rams when Coronado lost 18-1. Coronado’s run was scored by Erica Burkhart, 12, and aided by Karly Jervay, 12, and Nevaeh Santistevan, 10, both hitting an average above .350.

Though their last week was rough, Coronado is excited to see the Lady Cougars turn things around when they pick up again next fall. Senior Grace Leahy, a 4-year Softball player, said in remembering the season: “we won 300% more games this year than last, we batted a lot, even if we didn’t win much.” We are proud of them for continuing to play hard and avoid discouragement throughout their season. Be sure to try out next fall if you think you could add to the team, and remember to attend as many games as possible to try and support our Cougars.
