Family of the Fortnight: The Del Valle Family
December 7, 2017
From sports to clubs, to even teaching, the Del Valle family is taking this school by storm with newcomer Rachel, junior Diana, and their mom, Mrs. Del Valle.
Rachel Del Valle, 9, ran right into the school year with Cross Country. Not only a newcomer to Coronado but also a newcomer to the sport, Rachel is always looking to try something new. “I had never run for anything except in PE before now. Being on the team was a new and welcoming challenge” she commented. Mostly focusing on getting the hang of things this season, she’s proud to say she’s made a lot of progress, even PRing at the last meet of the season.
Not stopping at cross country, she is also a member of Coronado’s Ladies Swim and Dive Team with future plans to participate in track. “No one’s ever heard of a dweeb like me doing anything physically active and that’s exactly why I chose to do these sports. I plan on doing them for the next three years to come as well.”
Rachel isn’t the only one getting involved with the school, though. Her sister, Diana Del Valle, 11, is the president of The Science Olympiad. She got into it as a freshman when Mr. Muth suggested it to her. Being a big fan of science, she took the opportunity to check it out. “My biggest achievement in Science Olympiad would have to be reaching the title of president. The first year, there was really hardly anybody to step up so I took the opportunity, and it’s something that I’ve enjoyed a lot.”
Another name that might ring bells is Mrs. Del Valle, a math teacher at Coronado and the mother of Rachel and Diana. Mrs. Del Valle has been teaching at Coronado since 1994 and has made quite the impact. “I like working at Coronado. The kids are good, and the administration’s good.” Other than being a constant part of hundreds of students lives, she’s also contributed to the vertical alignment of classes and in having some of the higher classes.
Each member of the Del Valle family is chasing a different path, and all three of them are doing an amazing job. Be sure to wish Diana and Rachel a good luck!
