Cougars Take Down Air Academy in 5-set Thriller!

Dylan Kleckner, Staff Writer

Last Friday, September 21st, the Coronado volleyball team took on Air Academy High School. Many parents and students showed up to support the team, as it was the first home game on the brand new court. Air Academy came out strong, winning the fist set with a score of 25-23. The Cougars won the second 25-19. Set 3 went to Air Academy and set 4 went with the Cougars, forcing a 5th set. The Lady Cougars came out strong with a 8-1 lead early on, and with the crowd and fans fully behind them, it was difficult for the Kadets to get any momentum. The Cougars managed to get the win, 19-17.

Becca Rugg, 12, said “it was exciting and satisfying after being out of the gym for so long. We would practice at Holmes and the date kept getting pushed back. It was a good feeling to be back in, and having the home crowd brought a lot of energy to the game.” She also had high praise for her teammates. “We played as a team: the best all year. We had each others’ backs every single point, and we bounced back from each mistake.”  Don’t miss the Cougars next home game when they take on Liberty on Tuesday October 2nd!
