Cougar girls will compete today, Sep 9, at the Gator Invite at Standley Lake in Arvada.

Elana Muzzy, 10, who has been the top runner in each of the team’s races this season says, “The team will do great! I’m excited and nervous to try and break 20 minutes.”

Chloe Cassens, 10, says, “I want to go under 21 minutes; I haven’t done that yet this season. The team has been doing really well!”

Lindsey Murray, 10, is excited about the debut of new uniform shorts. “They look fast, aerodynamic! I think they will help cut off at least 10 seconds.”

The girls varsity team has performed well this season with a pair of top three team finishes despite being an entirely fresh-soph squad at the varsity level.  Returning upperclassmen Bailey Powell, 12, Allison Hill, 12, and Jackie Godec, 11 will try to break back into the top seven again this season.

On the boys’ side, seniors Michel Swanson and Nic Vai have been trading places every week this season as the top runner.  The boys earned a 7th place last week at the Arapahoe Warrior Invitational out of 30 teams.  With talented sophomores Andrew Burton and Conor Strizich and juniors Daniel Roth, Burke Babeu, and Clay Rahaman, the Cougars look to represent well today against the Denver-area teams.
