Winter Break

Lauren Strizich, Staff Writer

The Christmas season has arrived! Getting into the Christmas spirit can be difficult, and of course one never wants to start listening to the Christmas tunes too soon, but December has come which means now is the perfect time to get into the holiday season. People are getting their trees, buying new holiday mugs for the crazy amounts of coffee that must be consumed to prepare for finals, and of course, decorating their homes. Everyone has a favorite part about Christmas, for me, it’s being able to sit by a Christmas tree and sip on some hot chocolate.

One of our greatest teachers, Mr. Yeh, plans “on watching ‘Star Wars’ a few times and recharging for second semester.” We could all use a few weeks to recover from the stress that has come with first semester. For seniors, this semester has come with all the applications and confusion about what to study and where to go.

Mr. Stoughton, an English teacher, is also ready for the break. He is most excited about spending time with family early on Christmas morning and the “cougar and alumni run on Christmas Eve” that has become a tradition for the Coronado Cross Country family. This run also helps prevent some of the holiday weight gains that come with holiday baking. It has been a very stressful semester and it is good to know our teachers need a break just as bad as we do.

Elle Gray, a junior, is beyond excited for the break that awaits. Her “favorite part about Christmas is the traveling [her] family always does at this time of year.” Traveling is a big staple for many families this time of year, airports can get a little crazy so be careful when out and about. She also appreciates the lights that are put up all around town. This year, Elle is going to Mexico with her family for a week after Christmas. She is very excited to travel for the season! Freshman Spencer Stepp is not looking forward to “putting up the Christmas tree together [because] it’s a very annoying process.” Even more, a reason to go out and get a real tree!

It is hard to appreciate how close Christmas is when finals are looming over all of us. It does provide a sense of hope. We only have to survive the next three weeks and then we get to enjoy time off filled with sugar, sledding, and family. The break is near!
