COVID-19 In Coronado

We all know what distance learning is, and what we have been through while doing remote learning. Yes, It’s hard to do distance learning. But it’s not impossible. But it can still be fun and a great learning experience.

Some people think it’s horrible to have distance learning as an option. Some think it’s good to have distance learning. When it’s both! First, let me talk about the good things about distance learning. Distance learning can be a great learning experience. Samantha Hubbard Coronado High school 9th grade said “Yes, it is helpful because everyone has their own learning style that they can use .” And I agree with that because distance learning is like a separator so that we can’t get as distracted as easily. Fawna Lopez Coronado high school 10th grade said “Yes, it is helpful because it is a good way to learn because it keeps us safe from being sick from COVID-19 and if we had to miss school, we could just access this, and it would be like we are in school.” I also agree with that as well for not getting sick. Now some bad or difficult things about distance learning. Greg Bliss, a college career readiness teacher, who teaches pre-ap geometry and consumer math explained that “In the math department especially I can say for the teachers it’s difficult to have the students engage in really writing responses or showing responses just simply because of the vocabulary and the special symbols we need to use it just more than plus or minus especially when we to algebra and geometry and calculus there’s a lot of symbols we need to use it’s not impossible but it sure does take a lot of time to do that for students and for me as a geometry teacher it takes a lot of time to grade work.” I do agree that it is hard for students to engage in their work.
Now with my input on this is that yes the students can get distracted easily. And that’s why the school board made a rule for the students not to search up social media or games. This is a very good idea because of how they might search up social media on the school computers. For their personal use. witch, I can also know why students do it though.
I can see why this is important to the high school students in Coronado highschool. There are both positives and negatives that come with distance learning, and one of the positives includes the fact that it can help students avoid getting Covid-19. There are both positives and negatives that come with distance learning, and one of the positives in A negative, on the other hand, though, is that students are getting too distracted with social media, and other applications instead of doing work.

As for the future, Mr. Bliss says that” It doesn’t seem right now it’s going to give a different avenue for those students who can’t come to school for whatever reason can use distance learning”. On the same topic, Samantha Hubbard explains that “it might affect students on how to adapt to more of a comfortable learning style”. These opinions are all quite agreeable during a time like this. As of now, Coronado High School students will be returning to a hybrid calendar next week, 10/5, unless more change occurs.
