Inauguration+Day

January 21st, 2021 was a monumental day, where there was a new change in presidency. Joe Biden has now been elected into the presidential office as the 46th President of the United States, as well as Kamala Harris, the first woman Vice President, have just been elected into office. He was surrounded by past Presidents and President nominees (besides Trump – Shocker) and former Vice President Pence. Both families of the elected official were present as well as soldiers and members of the house and senate. The capital this year looked very different from past inauguration days, due to the pandemic and the recent raid of the capital the streets and the capital were filled with flags in replace of people.
Throughout the televised event, Biden gave an inspiring and hopeful speech to the nation that touched on the basis of unity in these challenging times. His own speech was accompanied by the youngest Inauguration poet, Amanda Gorman, who recited her own poem, “The Hill We Climb” which also stuck to President Biden’s theme of unity. Other special guests that attended were Lady Gaga, who performed the National Anthem. As well as Jennifer Lopez, who performed “This is Your Land” during this historic day. Garth Brooks was also in attendance near the end of the inauguration and performed “Amazing Grace”. However the party did not stop after the inauguration at noon, later in the evening the President and the First Lady stood on the balcony of the White House and began the televised “Celebrating America ” special that further included special guests to perform and attend on capitol hill. Performers such as Katy Perry, who performed a version of Firework as fireworks took over the sky in DC.
Even after all the excitement, President Biden did not stop there, in his first night in office, the new President signed 15 executive orders, and 2 memos. Some executive orders included objectives which would help fight the pandemic, changes to the Immigration and Visa policies, Racial and LGBTQ equality, and an order to re-enter the Paris Climate Accords. President Biden was ready and prepared to make changes the second he entered the oval office.
As the power in America changes, hopefully all these changes that President Biden and Vice President Harris are making, our nation will be better in the long run and will be able to unite together after a long period of separation.
