PGA has been the premier golf league for decades now, but with its new competitor, the PGA faces potentially being the number two option for pro-golfers. In 2021, a new golf league was founded by former Professional Golfer, Greg Norman, named “LIV Golf”. What has made LIV Golf interesting is its relation with the Saudi Arabian Government being the primary sponsor, giving the league an almost unlimited budget.
In just 2022, LIV Golf has pulled some major and even legendary players from the PGA Tour such as Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and once PGA faithful’s Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson.
With fan favorite players signing with LIV Golf while others continue to stay with the PGA and maybe even protest the new league, golf fans, players and analysts have all started to develop opinions on this topic.
When asked about the topic, Carson Green, freshman and Coronado golf player, said “I’ve always loved watching golf for the play of the players, not the league they play in, so if they want to play for a different league they should feel free to do so.”
