Cougars Vs. Kadets, Homecoming Football

By Aiden Archuleta

On September 23rd, the Coronado Cougars will face off against the Air Academy Kadets for an annual homecoming football game at Gerry Berry Stadium. Last year Coronado took on Air Academy and won 50-20 at home. For homecoming last year, the Cougars took on the Liberty Lancers and beat them with a final score of 42-14.

Coronado’s senior running back Dylan Jardin said, “I feel like we have a great chance to beat the Kadets, and I want to be able to run the ball and play to the best of my abilities in order to put ourselves in a good position to win for our community and for all the people that come and support us.”

The Cougars will have to come out ready and have confidence to beat the Kadets, and the cougar community will have to show up and support the cougars. Coronado will have to stop the Kadets’ main rusher and scorer, Sam Beers. Sam leads the Kadets in rushing yards with 157.3 Y/G and leads in touchdowns as well with 7 on the season. Coronado’s defense will have to find a way to stop the Kadet offense.

Head Coach Monte Gutowski said, “As far as Air Academy goes obviously Sam is the main focal point of their entire offense, and he is a big part of their special teams’ game and return game as well as he also punts. He’s got his hand in a lot of different things and he’s a great player and an All-State kid, so we have to be able to understand our reads and keys because they probably have a handful of other dudes that contribute.”
