The Coronado Interact Club has recently begun its second year of meetings. They convene every Monday at 8:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. in Mr. Gravenor’s room (252). Interact Club is a youth and teen-focused subsidiary of the Rotary Club, which shares its mission of contributing to community-oriented projects and addressing the impacts of widespread poverty in third-world countries by ensuring reliable access to sources of water, sanitation, and education to everyone, as well as resources and support to women who have been affected by violence or trafficking.
Interact offers various opportunities for students, including scholarships, leadership development, growth in morality, and the chance to participate in foreign exchange programs.
Nicole Li, last year’s president, says, “It [the Interact Club] is for people to help others who are in need. In your community or around the world… It is similar to Cougars Care but we do things more internationally.”
According to Mr. Gravenor, the sponsor of the Interact Club, “Interact Club is a great opportunity for all students… it allows students to express their interests outside of traditional extracurriculars. Students who are really interested in those topics [widespread poverty, starvation, etc.] have a place to extend and apply those ideas.”
Since starting last year’s second semester with four members and no funding, the Interact Club is finally on its feet. They possess the resources needed to positively impact Coronado, Colorado Springs, and global communities driven by the imagination and dedication of its student members.
