The Sky Fell! Kind of…

Next time you are in the gym, look up. Air vents of various sizes pepper the gym ceiling. Some of these vents have cages to keep the inner fixtures from falling, other vents seemingly hang unrestrained.

A few weeks into school, one of the larger air vent’s inner fixture fell. No one was injured and chains were put inside the vent to keep the fixture from reaching the floor. The same incident occurred last week during a gym class.

This time the incident was not unprovoked. Students had been throwing volleyballs at the air vent, and finally the inside of the vent fell out. Thankfully no one was hurt this time either, but it was a close call for the student standing five feet away from where the fixture hit the gym floor.

Chains have been placed inside of all the vents in the gym ensuring these fixtures will not have the ability to reach the floor. However, a kind reminder goes out to all the students about respecting school property: just because you can throw a volleyball or basketball at the ceiling does not mean you should. In this case no one was injured, but damaging school property is not only disrespectful, but could also end in an injury… or death.
