Coronado’s Boys Varsity Cross Country team participated in their final meet of the season on Saturday, October 31st. The boys team ran in the Colorado State Championship race, taking on the best 5A teams from all over the state. The Cougars ran hard and finished in 21st place. The competition was extremely tough, with the best athletes competing for the top finishing spots.

Nicholas Vai, 12, led the team in, finishing 51st place with a time of 17:27. Michael Swanson, 12, came in second for the team, finishing in 77th place overall. Swanson finished the race with a time of 17:37. Daniel Roth, 11, was third across the finish line for Coronado, in 106th place overall with time of 18:37. Mac Roberts, 9, finished in 131st place with a time of 18:25. Andrew Burton, 10, finished in 132nd place with a time of 18:25.

Coronado’s leading runner shared a few thoughts on the race and his outlook on cross country, “I think I did ok in last weeks race, I went out and tried my best. Overall, the team raced well, and the team really was good together.” When asked about how the team affects his performance and academics, Vai responded, “ The team is a great group of people, everybody is getting straight A’s and it inspires you to keep up and get good grades.”

Vai has been one of the top runners on the team for a while, and he sees himself running all throughout college and the rest of his life.

Congratulations to all of the Coronado Cougars who ran at the Championships.
