Mr. Cox: Coronado’s Master Cybrarian

Sam Strait and Cameron Bevans

Coronado has many teachers, many janitors and many administrators. But, there is only one “cybrarian” at this school. He is the one and only Mr. Cox, and he is the guy that works on our school’s computer networks. He can lead you to the perfect read. And most of all, he is passionate about giving his students the best resources possible to achieve academic success.

Mr. Cox’s passions and hobbies date far back to their roots. During his high school years, Mr. Cox discovered one of his most deeply held loves; reading. He was having trouble sleeping and needed a good pre-sleep routine, so he decided to pick up a good book. Mr. Cox read into his college days at the University of Iowa where he studied to become a science teacher and he continued reading into his teaching years; first in Utah, then here in Colorado.

Mr. Cox made the transition from teaching to his current position while he was at a Utah middle school. The school was setting up its computer systems for the first time, and he had a large hand in the project. The school used an Apple platform, and with the expertise of Mr. Cox, the state-of-the-art system ran smoothly and efficiently, providing a new, valuable resource for the students. Mr. Cox’s gravitation to computers and providing students with new technology was in full throttle. Here at Coronado, Mr. Cox has done much of the same for our PC-based computers. He works out the glitches that can prevent students from using the computers. He’s also been a pioneer among D11’s high schools, making Coronado the only of the four high schools to provide students with Google accounts.

Outside of school, Mr. Cox reads a lot. He also spends a large amount of time cruising around in the mountains on his beloved motorcycle.

We asked Mr. Cox what advice he had for Coronado students, and he answered:

“The advice I would give to Coronado students is to pick up a book and get lost in it. Just any book, any genre, any topic. Just read.”

As Coronado’s cybrarian, Mr. Cox plays a pivotal role in our school. So next time you log onto a computer or check out a novel here at school, you can be sure that Mr. Cox is behind it somehow.
