Vandals Run Rampant

Shorthanded Security and Brutal Lack of Resources to Blame

Recently, Coronado vandals have taken to throwing paint at cars in the staff parking lot.

Security guard Betty Schulmeister suggested that affected teachers “park somewhere else,” as her solution to the problem. Already short-staffed after the recent release of a security guard, the security team offered little hope of identifying the vandals unless they strike again.

Assistant principal Arnell admits that the school could use at least 15 more security cameras around campus to address blind spots.

So who is really to blame? Should the district be offering more resources to keep campuses safe and secure? Should the safety of the people on staff be considered a priority for the administration? How can that even happen without the necessary resources to man the campus and keep a secure eye on the rest?

Something has got to give. For now, it seems like the answer is that the teachers and staff are the ones who have to make sacrifices…sacrifices to their personal property and sense of safety.

If any students around campus have any information about vandalism, any kind of vandalism, they should report it to the security or administration teams.
