App of the Month: NBA Jam

Shea Ward, Staff Writer

The Cougar Daily Journalism team has deemed NBA Jam the App of the month.

Ever since March Madness, basketball has been a particularly hot topic and this app only adds to the fun. The app is on the appstore for $4.99 and with over 500 thousand downloads, the app has made more than 2 billion dollars.

NBA Jam features local multiplayer mode allowing users to take on their friends. Users can play through the Campaign mode to unlock teams, players, and then play freely on whichever mode they choose. The app has not updated its players to the current season, but there are 30 NBA teams to choose from, each featuring NBA players from the more classic arcade era such as Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Dr. J, Scott Skiles, Karl Malone, Detlef Schrempf and Danny Manning.

“I like that the game is, in a word, hokey (mawkishly sentimental). It’s pretty old school, it’s fun, it gets me going. The game reminds me of my childhood. I love to play it, because it’s so amusing. Especially when it makes the announcement like, ‘He’s on fire’ and the ball catches on fire. It takes me back.” said Mr. Thomas, boys basketball coach.

NBA jam is very entertaining, however teachers would appreciate it if you would refrain from playing in class.
