Adding to their 7-game win streak, the Coronado Volleyball team demolished the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans on October 10th. Their win was quick and merciless, winning the first three sets with a margin of 23, 13, and 13 points, respectively.

Seniors Mara Abernethy and Jaeyln Hershberger refused to go easy on the Trojans with 10 kills by Mara and 11 by Jaeyln. Delanie St. Pierre, 12, and Ella Moceri, 9, also attacked relentlessly with 9 successful serves by Moceri and 11 by St. Pierre.

Mara Abernethy, 12, said “I think we did a good job of keeping it on the other team, and not letting ourselves slip below our level.” The few times the Lady Cougars allowed the Trojans to return the ball, though, defensive players kept the pressure high and were quick to put things back on the offensive. Bethany Hietland, 12, in particular kept the ball on the correct side of the court with a fantastic total of 9 digs, while Jaeyln Hershberger, 12, received an astounding 11 serves successfully.

On October 12th, the lady Cougars once again proved their prowess against the Doherty Spartans in a three-set game where they managed to win by 4, 7, and 18 points. Delanie St. Pierre,12, led the charge against the Spartans with a staggering 21 serves and 28 kill assists (out of 29 for the whole team). Again, Mara Abernethy, 12, led the kill count with 8 kills.

Be sure to catch the Volleyball team at the next home game on November 4th against rival Rampart. The 4th is both Senior Night and ‘Senior Citizen” theme night, so come dressed as an old person and support our Volleyball team!
