Queer Prom is quickly approaching, and the queer community couldn’t be more excited! The event, funded by Inside Out Youth Services, will take place at Palmer High School (325 North Wasatch) on 4/27, and will last from 8 to 11 p.m. The event’s theme will be Victorian era/ Steampunk Tea Party. The fee to attend is $5.

Queer prom is for not only gender and sexuality non-conforming people, but those who are questioning and allies, as well! This is your opportunity to express yourself as you are at an amazing event that you truly don’t want to miss!

To prepare for Queer Prom, The Inside Out Youth Services is allowing those who need help with dressing up to pick up donated attire from their clothing closet, or help somebody in need by dropping off your donated Queer Prom attire and accessories. The event is in need of items, so please feel free to drop off your donated items!

Queer Prom is a valuable space for the queer youth to express themselves in a way that is true to them, giving youth the ability to be somewhere where they are accepted and loved. The need for acceptance runs high in the queer community, where dozens of people can express themselves, however they may need. The importance of being able to express someone’s gender or sexuality nonconformity is essential to happy and healthy growth, and Queer Prom gives those who need love and tolerance a gym full of loving, happy people.

Ms.Jacobs, the sponsor of Coronado’s GSTA, encourages our queer youth, as well as those who are allies, to attend Queer Prom! “Queer Prom is important because a lot of kids who don’t feel comfortable or safe going to our prom and being who they really are have an opportunity to go to an area where they can be accepted. It allows the community itself to have a safe place to truly be who they are, and if other people see that, the people who are volunteering, participating, and supporting the experience, then they understand the issues that some of these kids face. Regardless of the specific theme, more power to them! The whole thing isn’t so much about the theme, so much as it is about being there and being proud.”

To anybody that is interested, we are very proud of you that you are taking steps toward putting yourself out there as who you really are. We hope you can attend this great event!
