About Robotics:

The Robotics Program was one of the first robotics teams based in the Colorado Springs area. The team takes on the creative fun name of, “Cougars Gone Wired.” The Coronado Robotics Team thrives on an all student run leadership which embraces creative thinking, and respect for the thought of any new ideas.

The team is active, friendly, smart, creative, and a great representation of Coronado Cougar Pride. Cougars Gone Wired does not only compete locally, but they travel to many other states. Two interviews with William Leech, and Adiel Dominguez who are both members of the robotics team reveals more about the program.William Leech (11),  “chose to be in robotics because when [he] was little [he] saw the school do a demo of the robots they built. Ever since then “[William] knew [he] wanted to do robotics and be apart of that team.” Adiel Dominguez’ favorite part of robotics, “is the build phase of the robot. When [the team] all pull the parts [they]need and work together as a team. [The process] turns out to be a lot of fun. [Adiel] [has] a lot of good memories in the build phase of the robot.”

Leech’s works on the team as apart of the, “Special Projects where [the group] actually assemble[s] the field so that the people driving the robot know what is going on.” As for Dominguez’ position,he is, “Mobility, where [they] create the wheels and the frame of the robot. [The group] rel[ies] heavily on the field team to tell [them] the field so [the group] can build the wheels from there.”

Coronado has one of the better made up robotics teams in the Colorado region. Many awards are given for the hard work and pride that our cougars put in. Throughout the past three years the Coronado Robotics team has won various awards inside the state boundaries and outside on the state boundaries. In this last year, 2019, Cougars Gone Wired received the Quality Award sponsored by Motorola Solutions Foundations as well as the Safety Award sponsored by Underwriter Laboratories. They received the team spirit award sponsored by the FCA foundations. In the year of 2018, they received the Team Spirit Award at the Colorado Regional, while they also received the Imagery Award at the Utah Regional. The list of awards goes on, and shows the true pride our Cougars take in their work!
