Varsity Football Coaching Staff

After the departure of Coach Lizarraga as Coronado’s head football coach in 2014, Head Coach Robb Wetta and company take over the Coronado football program. Here are the Varsity football coaches for the 2015-2016 Coronado Cougars season.

 

Robb Wetta, Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach

Coaching Experience:  Coach Wetta has coached football at Mitchell High School with Tom Sandoval. Coach Wetta remained working with quarterbacks and Receivers from all over Colorado Springs, he personally coached former Coronado Quarterback Joah Smith.

Achievements: All-Colorado Quarterback at Mitchell High School, All-Big Sky Quarterback at Idaho State University, he worked out with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and received numerous opportunities to play in the Arena Football League.

Background: Native of Colorado Springs, he attended Mitchell High School. After high school he went to Idaho State University for his freshman and sophomore years. He transferred to Fresno State University his junior year. He then transferred to Black Hills State University in South Dakota for his senior year, from where he graduated.

 

Todd Wetta, Varsity Offensive Line Coach

Coaching Experience:  2001 –2002: Freshmen coach at Mitchell High school, 2004 -2005: JV Coach at Wasson High School

Achievements: 1998 All-Conference center at Mitchell High School

Background: Coach Todd Wetta is the brother of Coach Robb Wetta. Coach Todd Wetta is a native of Colorado Springs, and attended Mitchell High School. He played two years at Black Hills State, and graduated from Marshall University.

 

Ritchie Loflin, Varsity Defensive Line Coach

Coaching Experience: Most recently, he was the Varsity Offensive Assistant and Defensive Line Coach at Liberty High School and previously spent 13 years as the JV Head Coach and Freshmen Assistant Coach at Mitchell High School.  Coach Loflin has been coaching football since 1986.

Achievements: Holds a Bachelor’s degree from Western State as well as a Masters Degree from Lesley University.

Background: Coach Loflin was an accomplished high school athlete excelling in football, wrestling, and Track & Field. Coach Loflin went on to play football at Western State.

 

 

Mike Vrana, Wide Receivers & Defensive Backs Coach

Coaching Experience: Coach Vrana was a football coach for Mitchell High School for 12 years before moving to Wasson High School as the Varsity Offensive Coordinator.

Background: Coach Vrana is a native of Colorado Springs. He attended Mitchell High School and played defensive back for the Marauders from 1986 – 1988.

 

 

Ricky Lobato, Varsity Defensive Coordinator

Coaching Experience: Coach Lobato has been a high school football coach for the past four years. This will be Coach Lobato’s third year on the Coronado football staff.  While with Coronado, he has coached the C-Team as a secondary coach and defensive coordinator. He will be the Varsity defensive coordinator this year.

Achievements: Bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education. Along with his teaching credentials from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Coach Lobato holds a master’s degree in reading curriculum and instruction from Grand Canyon University.

Background: Coach Lobato is a lifelong Colorado Springs resident, as well as a 2006 Coronado High School graduate. He attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and Grand Canyon University.

 

Caleb Muth, Line Backers and Running Backs coach

Coaching Experience: 2011-2012 Coronado High School freshman offensive coordinator, 2012-2013 varsity receivers and freshman offensive coordinator, 2013-2014 – varsity and jv assistant, 2014-2015 Coronado linebacker and running backs coach.

Background:  Coach Muth is also a science teacher at Coronado.
