With 27 years teaching at Coronado and 35 years working in education in total, Mrs. Del Valle has decided to start a new adventure: retirement!
Mrs. Del Valle’s absolute favorite part of the education experience has been the kids she met and learned from along the way. She mentioned her favorite subjects to teach included her Calculus 2/3 class, but her overall favorite subject remains Algebra.
Teaching at Coronado for so long, Mrs. Del Valle has seen 7 different principals circulate through administration, each with their own unique ideas on how Coronado should run. Yet, one thing remains the same: the kids are always “just kids.” She seems to have kept a healthy perspective on the role of teachers as grown-ups who are tasked with helping people not only learn their subject but become adults.
Her fulfilling lengthy career has led her to discovering the core of lifelong education: “Anyone can learn anything, as long as they want to.” Ms. Del Valle’s plans after retirement include spending time with family and ultimately going wherever the wind takes her.
Mrs. Del Valle will be missed by many, from her singing in the mornings to her affection ribbing of students by calling them “weenies.” Good luck next year!
