On Tuesday, Coronado’s Varsity Boys Golf team earned a first place finish at the Smoky Hill Invitational, even without one of the teams four golfers, Austin Burgess, 12. Competing at Denver’s Cherry Creek Country Club, Isaac Petersilie, 12, won first place in the tournament’s individual rankings. Petersilie scored an impressive 70 on the 72 par course, putting him at -2. The other two Coronado golfers, Luke Travins, 11, and Wes Moran, 12, each scored 79, putting both at +7.

The victory comes as reassurance after a good beginning to the 2015 campaign, with some mid-season struggles as the defending State Champions aim to repeat their title.

On Monday and Tuesday of next week, Coronado will compete in the State Tournament, reaching the pivotal make-or-break moment of the season.

In regards to Tuesday’s win and next week’s tournament, Petersilie said, “The course [on Tuesday] was more difficult than any of us expected, but we managed to pull it together. For State, we just need to keep up the practice and the course yesterday was good preparation.”

Hopefully all of us at Coronado High School will witness another state title win by our golf team.
