Second Win Of The Season Just Out Of Reach

Zak Pasquarello, Staff Writer

Unfortunately, the Cougars varsity football team could not grab their second win of the season in their game against Mesa Ridge, and were defeated by a score of 15-7. Despite the loss, Marquis Arrington, 12, however, had another strong game totaling 134 yards on 19 carries and a reception. Not to mention, he also had the highlight of the game with a 70 yard run and finished the game with a touchdown a couple of plays later. Even though Toby Smith, 10, had a tough game going 9-29 for 106 yards and an interception, he quickly found his new target Tyler Clark, 10, who had 4 receptions for 78 yards and one reception for 48 yards.

Defense made plays all over the field Brock Stinson, 10, had a huge interception which changed the pace of the game. Gavin Cade, 11, not only had a huge sack, the Cougars’ only sack, but also recovered a fumble, 1 of 3 turnovers forced by the Cougar defense. Leader of the defense Ryan Strabala, 12, led the team in tackles with 12 solo tackles and a whopping 17 total tackles. Make sure to be at the Cougars next game Friday October 8th at 7:00pm as they try to rebound against Pueblo Centennial.
