On Tuesday, Sept 13, the first choir concert of the school year took place in the Coronado Auditorium. Men’s, Repertory, Cantadoras, Chamber and Shomber Choirs performed that night, each choir singing two to four songs each. The house was completely full and the crowd was bustling, excited for the eagerly awaited show.

“I thought we did an incredible job and we really worked hard, and I believe that it showed through in our performance,” said Noel Martinez, 10.

The evening began with the Men’s Choir, who performed four songs, starting with, “Riders in the Sky,” followed by, “Stand by Me,” “Nine Hundred Miles,” and concluded with the hilarious, “I Wish I Was Single Again”. Then, the Repertory Choir came after, performing, “Die Meere,” “The Rainbow,” and “What Is This Feeling?” from Wicked. Next up was the Cantadoras choir, who sang, “The Lost Rose,” “Miserere,” and “Dance on My Heart”. Increasing in skill and maturity in sound as the concert went on, the Chamber group performed, “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” “See the Chariot At Hand,” and “The Drunken Sailor”. Before the finale, Director Jeff Hodur briefly left the stage and returned sporting his Bears jersey in triumph of the team’s recent win. In the jersey, Hodur directed the last group, a combination of chamber and show choir, Shomber, sang “Sing Me to Heaven” finishing up the night with, “Neighbor’s Chorus”.

“I think all of the choirs did a phenomenal first performance. The men’s choir did exceptionally well since it is their first time performing in a while. Each choir was great and I’m looking forward to seeing them grow into better musical artists,” said Erica Purcell, 11.

The performers and audience alike were pleased and proud of their show, and are now starting to prepare for the holiday concert.
