Boys Varsity Basketball Loses in Opener at Widefield

Sam Strait, Staff Writer

Our Varsity Boys Basketball team started their season off with a loss against the Widefield Gladiators. The Cougars finished the 1st period at a 9-18 deficit, but outscored the Gladiators 12-9 in the 2nd period to end the half. However, things did not go Coronado’s way in the 3rd. The Cougars lost that quarter 4-18. In the final period, the Cougars mounted a comeback, but it wouldn’t be enough. They outscored the Gladiators 22-16.

Coronado’s high scorers were #5 Jaydon Lewis, 11, and #22 Ashton Rogers, 10. Each scored 12 in the contest, which was more than every Widefield player except for the game’s high scorer, Tre Pierre, 10. The 6’4” Gladiator scored 25 for his team.

The Cougars next test will be a home game against Mesa Ridge on Saturday, Dec. 5th.
