Coronado Women’s Tennis, 6-2, finished the week with two strong victories, the first at home over crosstown rival Palmer on April 21, and a second in the form of the capture of the Colorado Springs District-11 title at the Doherty High Spartan Invite on April 22.

Against the Terrors, the Cougars prevailed 5-2; in singles, Coronado #1 singles player sophomore Savannah Leifer defeated Palmer’s Grace Meluso, 11,  two sets-to one.  Coronado #2 singles, sophomore Bethany Heitland, defeated Palmer’s Lucy Timmins, 11, in two sets, and Coronado #3 singles Carli Kassner, 9, was narrowly defeated by Palmer’s Abby Timmins, 10. In doubles, Coronado #1 doubles seniors Kara Perry and Sydney Walker, defeated Palmer’s Ellie Sullivan, 12, and Emma MacEnulty, 11, two sets-to one, despite some questionable calls from their opponents.  Coronado #2 doubles freshman-sophomore pairing Connie Sun and Maya Glaser narrowly lost to Palmer’s Annaliese Bronner, 11, and Casey Schlortt, 12.  Coronado #3 doubles Amelia Chromy, 12, and Timber Alley, 11, defeated Palmer’s Samuela Mouzoair, 12, and Margy Schueler, 10, two sets-to one.  Coronado #4 doubles, juniors Sydney Coen and Logan Baumberger defeated Palmer’s Maya Branch, 10, and Rabecka Jimenez, 10, two sets-to nothing.

On Friday, Coronado captured not only the district title but individual district-wide titles for Savannah Leifer, #1 singles, Bethany Heitland, #2 singles, Amelia Chromy and Timber Alley, #3 doubles, and Sydney Coen and Logan Baumberger with a victory in #4 doubles.

After winning the district title, Bethany Heitland said, “We all worked really hard and supported each other. It was a great win to build up our confidence heading into regionals.”
