The 2015-2016 Colorado Springs District 11 women’s varsity tennis champions and 6-4 Coronado Cougars accomplished among the most impressive tennis regional performances in recent years on May 4 and 5. At the Colorado Athletic Club-Inverness in Lone Tree, Colorado, the Cougars placed second among 5A contenders Northglenn, Mountain Vista, Doherty, Fountain Ft. Carson, George Washington, Columbine, and Highlands Ranch, second only to Mountain Vista.

Coronado’s highest placing player/duo was Coronado #4 doubles, juniors Sydney Coen and Logan Baumberger, who will head to the Colorado 5A State Tennis Championships in Denver, Colorado, on May 13-14. The juniors, 6-4 over the season, were not only undefeated at the district tournament, but also at regionals. Sydney Coen said, “This season has definitely been a growing experience and we have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time and regionals really proved that! We put it all out there these past two days and are so excited to see what happens at state!”

Contributing to the Cougar’s second place finish was a third place finish by #1 singles Savannah Leifer, 10, a third place finish by #2 singles Bethany Heitland, 10, a 5th place finish by first-time #3 singles player Clara Thompson, 10, a fourth place finish by #1 double Kara Perry, 12, and Sydney Walker, 12, a 2nd place finish by #2 doubles Maya Glaser, 10, and Connie Sun, 9, and a third place finish by #3 doubles Amelia Chromy, 12, and Timber Alley, 11.

Congrats on a fantastic finish to great season cougars, and good luck to Sydney and Logan at state!
